Paul is making a thorough point to the Galatians, it is not because of the law that God graces us with his Spirit. It is not. If by the law we could be saved, that would have happened. In actuality, the law made us prisoners of a curse since we cannot live up to it. It is because of this curse that Christ had to die for us, that by faith we might be forgiven, that we might be righteous in His sights. But this wasn't just a new thing, since Abraham faith has been a factor in righteousness. Not that Abraham lived lawlessly, but that his faith was the thing that made him righteous. Even back then it was promised that his seed would bless the nations. All the way back then and even before creation God had the foresight to see or fall and need for redemption and to have it all planned out that Chrst would make the substitution for us, and pay our ransom.by faith in Jesus and him crucified we are made sons of God, through him anything is possible, through him is life and love everlasting. Even so, we can fall back into trying by our own strength, trying to earn something we couldn't possibly. So, yeah, just remembering that it isn't by anything that we have done that we have come into this relationship with God and that we have a tendency of slipping back into that mindset and that we need to be rebuked is humbling.
In the Chapter:
Questions:
Who has bewitched you?
Did you recieve the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you have heard?
Are you so foolish?
After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?
Have you suffered so much for nothing?
Does God give you his spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you have heard?
What then was the purpose of the law?
Is the law, therefore opposed to the promises of God?
Facts:
Abraham believed God and righteousness was acredited to him.
Those who believe are children of God.
Those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham
All who try to live by the law as their means of justification are cursed because they cannot possibly live up to it's standards.
Christ redeemed us from this curse by dying for us.
He redeemed us to give us the chance to recieve the Spirit by faith
The law did not override God's promise to Abraham, but
The law was established along with the sacrifice system because of the iniquities of the Israelites
If it were possible to establish a law that would give life, it would have been.
Although the world is a prisoner of sin, through faith we can receive the blessing through Christ
The law held us prisoners, but Christ has set us free and justified us by faith
By faith we are sons of God, clothed with Christ
We are all one in Christ
